Meet Otto,

Otto is a 9-year-old male neutered Goldendoodle who presented to West Delray Veterinary to discuss some changes in Otto’s behavior. He had become reluctant to jump on and off of the couch and was also noted to be more reactive when being touched near his back end.

Otto was examined by one of our Rehabilitation Veterinarians, Dr. Thomas, who found pain along Otto’s lower back along with stiffness and soreness in his hips. As a result of these exam findings, a rehabilitation program was recommended for Otto.  The plan was to introduce laser therapy to decrease pain and inflammation in his muscles and joints, manual therapy to alleviate muscle pain and improve flexibility, and therapeutic exercise to help improve muscle strength and stability. After just a few sessions and a combination of pharmaceuticals to help manage pain, Otto is now able to go for longer walks with his family and is no longer being reactive when touched!

Identifying and treating pain in animals is one of the most rewarding parts of our jobs as veterinary professionals. This is a great example of an integrative approach to pain management that helped accomplish quick results in a dog with musculoskeletal discomfort. We are thrilled to be able to make a difference in the lives of other pets experiencing discomfort like Otto!
